Gabrielle Reece biography (bio): Gabrielle Reece is a professional volleyball player and former fashion model. Gabrielle Reece was born in La Jolla, California, and spent her early years living in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. In high school, Reece excelled at basketball and played volleyball on the side. Many colleges started recruiting her due to her abilities in sports. Gabrielle Reece accepted a volleyball scholarship from Florida State University (FSU), where she majored in communications and led the league in kills four times and blocks once. FSU inducted Reece into the Florida State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997. Since graduation Gabrielle Reece has played on professional volleyball tours. Gabrielle Reece began her modeling career while attending FSU. She has appeared on the covers of several magazines including Shape, Women's Sports & Fitness, Outside, ELLE, and Life. Gabrielle Reece also appeared on the cover of Playboy, with an accompanying pictorial, in January 2001. As an Elite model, she could command a per day rate of US$10,000. Outside of volleyball, Gabrielle Reece published an autobiography, co-written with Karen Karbo, entitled Big Girl in the Middle. Gabrielle Reece also writes a column for Women's Sports & Fitness magazine. In November 1997, she married surfer Laird Hamilton. They have one child together, daughter Reece Viola Hamilton, who was born in October 2003. Gabrielle Reece's Playboy: Reece’s side career as a model won her even more popularity. In January 2001 Gabrielle Reece made it to the cover page of Playboy. But Gabrielle Reece refused to pose naked for Playboy, Gabrielle Reece angrily chastised her agent for bringing her an offer to pose nude for Playboy. |
