| "This Is Why I'm Hot" is a song that makes little, if any sense. "Mims" claims he is hot because he is fly but you (other people, mainly caucasians)ain't cuz u not. What remains to be seen is if he is really fly and if he is not, if he remains hot. Scientific evidence proves that he is indeed not fly and it is up to debate whether he is really hot.
It has also performed successfully on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Billboard Hot Rap Tracks charts peaking at number two and number one respectively thus far. This song features samples from Kanye West's "Jesus Walks", E-40's "Tell Me When to Go", Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' But a "G" Thang" and Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones Pt. II". Each sampled song is played when Mims mentions an area, where each artists of the sampled song originated (ex. "Shook Ones, Pt. II" is played when Mims mentions he's from New York, and "Tell Me When To Go" is played when he mentions the Bay Area). On February 23, 2007 the song reached the top spot on the U.S. iTunes Store 100 most-downloaded songs, surpassing Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around Interlude". The song debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, selling 140,874 downloads. By early March 2007, the online release of the song had propelled it from number 32 to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in one week; this was the third-greatest rise to number one in the history of the Billboard Hot 100. It remained at number one in the next week until it was surpassed by "Glamorous", by Fergie and Ludacris the week after in the issue dated March 24, 2007. Also in March 2007, Washington, D.C. radio host Peter "PMD" Rosenberg created a parody of the song entitled "This Is Why Duke Sucks," a tribute to the Duke University men's basketball program in advance of the upcoming NCAA basketball tournament. MIMS performed the song on Wild 'N Out: Spring Break Edition. Radio stations in the UK took notice of the song's success in the USA and it is B-Listed on UK Radio. The Song Has Been Up & Down On The Virgin Radio Airplay Chart Starting At #17 Because Of The Big In The USA. It later got the full digital sale at the end of April. It got the biggest gainer of all time on the chart moving from #63 to #9. It's highest entry so far is #5 as of May 4, 2007. It entered the UK Singles Chart at #62 on May 6, 2007 based on downloads with the an entry of #53 on the UK i-Tunes Store. | |||||||||||||||
